Qualifications for the API 653 Exam

If you have a bachelor’s degree, you are
required to have one year experience of supervised activity inspecting and
working on aboveground tanks.

If you hold an associate’s degree or a certificate,
you must have two years of experience in the industry. You are required to have
one of the two years’ supervised for proper inspection duties for API 653.

If you have a
high school diploma, you are required to have three years of experience
in the industry. One of the three years must be
supervised.

If you hold no prior education, it is necessary
to have five or more years of experience working in the industry. One of the
five years must be supervised adequately
for inspection duties.
